Jens Nielson was a religious emigrant from the island of Laaland, Denmark. He, along with his family, emigrated to the United States in 1856 and joined the ill-fated Willie Handcart Company headed for the Salt Lake Valley. The company was struck by an early winter and suffered many fatalities due to cold and starvation. Among the dead was his only son Jens (age six) and Bodil Mortenson a young girl that was traveling with the family. After reaching the Salt Lake Valley, Jens founded several communities in southern Utah including Cedar City and Bluff. Where he built this beautiful rock house that is now fully upgraded with modern amenities to make your stay more enjoyable.

This property has 4 Queen(s).

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! by Martha 11/10/2019
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bluff. The area is so incredibly beautiful!! The house is old, and has its' quirks, but is homey and quite comfortable. My only objection would be the lack of anything in the way of staples. We even had to buy salt. Be prepared to buy kitchen staples, toilet paper, paper towels, and either bring or buy more towels & wash cloths. We were provided none of those things adequately. Also, be aware the closest real grocery is 25 miles away. Those things being said, everything else was just fine. We enjoyed everything about our stay. Thank you.
Perfect house for large groups or families by Catherine 11/10/2019
This older house is a great stop for access to a number of nearby areas, like Monument Valley, the Four Corners, Valley of the Gods, and more. This house is perfect for a large group, with comfy beds and a nicely stocked kitchen. The house, although decades old, is sparkling clean and has modern bathrooms. Bluff is a cute little town and you’ll enjoy getting away from it all here!
More of a cabin than condo by Derek 11/10/2019
This is a charming and very homey place. It's an experience in itself. It's charming but you need to take it for what it is. It's more primitive in that the wifi can not be relied upon. It was barely usable which was a problem since we needed to get some work done and had to buy lunch at a restaurant just to use their wifi. Also some of the bathrooms take an extremely long time to get hot water so rather than waste and wait, we all ended up using the same bathrooms downstairs. If you take this place for what it is and know going in that it will be more of a cabin-like experience where you can unplug from modern life and not worry about the modern creature comforts or you don't need more than two bathrooms for showering, you will love this place. It was very charming.
Excellent place to stay by Jenny 11/10/2019
Excellent place to stay. Only thing that needs done is to sharpen the knives in the kitchen.
Amazing!! by Andrew 09/15/2019
An amazingly interesting old historic house, very nicely decorated and presented. It's in a great location for seeing such interesting local sights. Jerry was fantastic at providing info on things to do in the area. A great stay!

Had a nice stay by Mandee 08/11/2019
There's a lot of history, including at the house, Jens Nielson house. The Bluff Fort Museum is an absolute must see, and a lot of history in the house itself. Overall, the experience was good, although one of the bathrooms had a leak, for which we notified the property manager as soon as we found it. It was not fixed while we were there. The ice machine did not work, so we froze our water for our daily excursions. The one thing I was not happy about, was there were a few cockroaches the last 2 days we were there, but they could have arrived with one of the other groups in the yard
Insanely roomy! by Lisa 07/14/2019
Insanely roomy and totally relaxing after being in the heat of canyon country. Enjoyed the historical ambience of being in the home of Jens Nielson. Central AC was very efficient and totally quiet--absolutely no highway noise, either. Everything as advertised and then some. Highly recommended.

A great stay in Bluff!
The owner was delightful! by Jamison 07/14/2019
We are from Utah and are exploring parts of the state we haven’t visited before. This trip did not disappoint. We had the perfect blend of history and beautiful outdoor activity. (Everyone should visit the Bluff Fort!). The house we stayed in added even more to the historical experience. The owner was delightful.

Perfect choice in Bluff by Jason 06/12/2019
This was a perfect choice for us in Bluff. The home was immaculate, spacious and centrally located for a visit to Monument Valley, float trip down the San Juan River, and on to Mesa Verde. We would rent this property again.

Excellent property for a group!
Clean and spacious by Kelli 05/05/2019
This was a very clean and spacious home in Bluff. Very quaint and restful feel. Exceeded our expectations. We used the location as our starting point for several day trips of hiking to the Ancient Peubloan sites in the area. Across the street is the Historical Bluff Fort Visitors Center. What a wonderful group of people to visit with in the evening. I would give it a 4.5 stars if possible. The only reason for not rating it a 5 star there were a coupe of minor issues that were resolved by the management, but felt that these should could been address before our arrival with better inspections.
Thank you!! by Cayttie 05/05/2019
Thank you for letting us stay at your home! I love that each room has its own bathroom.
Would recommend this property in a heartbeat! by Michelle 04/15/2019
We had an amazing trip! The location of the property was perfect and the house had all the amenities you could want for a family vacation. We had a great time! If you’re looking for a central place to stay and explore the Four Corners area...this is it.

The house was perfect for our family. Plenty of space with all the necessary amenities. Great location and amazing surrounding area. Jerry was quick to respond to all questions.
A hidden gem! by Clara 04/15/2019
We stayed at the Jens Nielsen house in Bluff as a launch point for a family vacation to the 4 corners. Lots of stuff to see locally and the Bluff Fort right across the street was a gem we weren't expecting.
A real find, highly recommended! by Jeannine 03/22/2019
This is a beautiful home with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, a great kitchen and huge dining room. We had six people and absolutely loved it. We went hiking during the day and watched the Academy Awards one night. History buffs will be interested in the original owner and how the house was built and modified. It’s in a great location. I think it’s a real find and would recommend it highly!
What a fun home! by Bob 02/12/2019
What a fun home! Plenty big for the 5 of us. We all had private bathrooms and separate spaces

Would love to return! by Jeannine 12/14/2018
Charming historical house with modern spacious well equipped kitchen and large dining room. We wished we had more time to spend in the house. History buffs will love it. Sitting rooms were very inviting. Each bedroom had its own bathroom. Would love return sometime.
My wife LOVED this house! by Brian 10/29/2018
A charming, comfortable and well equipped house set in the middle of this tiny village. Perfect for those with an interest in the past. Good outside space with seating in the shade. Beautifully appointed interior in the style of the era. Easy drive to Monument Valley. All the information we needed well in advance. Across the road to the historic Bluff Fort. WiFi is better in some parts of the house than others.
A lovely old house with full up-to-date amenities by Anne 10/29/2018
This is a lovely old house with full up-to-date amenities. The history of the house is most interesting and a visit to the nearby Historic Fort signifies the importance of this house in history. Very comfortable beds. Plenty of towels and other essential items you will require are provided. Very clean. A home-from-home experience.
Spacious house and charming decor by Beau 10/29/2018
This was a perfect base for five days of hiking to some of the ruins and rock art in the area. We appreciated the good quality and good condition of the major appliances. The owner responded immediately to questions and concerns.
Great house and location - full of history. by Anne 09/27/2018
We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility. If we locate for a period of time in Bluff we would seek this house again.
Loved it!! by Becky 08/30/2018
We had 5 adults and 6 kids for our stay. We loved having a bathroom with each bedroom. The home is obviously very old but well maintained. It is kitty corner from the Bluff Fort (which we also loved). We didn't do any cooking but there were dishes etc. in the kitchen. Our favorite was the front porch. There was a huge rainstorm while we were there and we loved watching it from the covered front porch. We would give it 4.5 stars!

We enjoyed our stay by M.C. 08/30/2018
We enjoyed our stay in this house very very much! Very special is the history of the house, combined with all of the conveniences. It is relaxing to sit on the terrace and look to Fort Bluff. We will recommend the house to our friends and relatives. Also the people around and in Fort Bluff are very friendly and helpful. With kind regards
Great location by Jackson 08/30/2018
Great location and experience staying in a historical house.
Had a wonderful stay by Marrisa 08/30/2018
We very much enjoyed the Jens Nielsen house. It was very spacious including relaxing living areas and private baths for all bedrooms and we appreciated the historical touches like photos and information about the family.

The kitchen has many small appliances and all the cookware/dishes you would need for a family meal. Over time as more guest stay, I think the cupboards will become stocked with day-to-day essentials. The host did provide coffee and tea which was great.

The front porch was great for relaxing after a day of touring. Plus the interesting Fort museum is just across the street. The volunteers there are very friendly and shared a lot of information about the town's history. All in all, Bluff is great base for exploring the area, and this house was a real find.
Great place to stay! by Noah 07/10/2018
Beautiful Home, welcoming host. Thank you!
Great home base... by Johns 07/10/2018
Great home base for exploring the Bear’s Ears. Property was as described. Plenty of room. Nice master bathroom. We used the kitchen and BBQ grill to make evening meals.
Lovely house in charming small town by Sarah 07/10/2018
We didn't have any direct interactions with the owners. The house is a beautiful renovated old home with antique furniture and lots of space. We prefer to cook our own meals and the kitchen could do with a little more equipment (eg more pots and pans, vegetable peeler, sponges for cleaning...). The hosts have prepared a fantastically useful folder of information about tourism opportunities, amenities in the region, and so on – the best I have ever seen in a holiday rental property. Bluff is a quiet, charming small town with a little history, eg the Bluff Fort (just across the road). The property itself is historical, having belonged to an early bishop of the region. About 40 minutes from Monument Valley. A very enjoyable stay in a lovely house.
Gorgeous home, but a few inconveniences by Michelle 07/10/2018
This is a beautiful home with wonderful art and antiques! Although it is advertised as having a coffee maker, there wasn't one, so we had to be creative and improvise. There also was not a corkscrew even though there are wine glasses in the kitchen. End tables with lamps would have been nice for reading and sitting on the porch. Despite these inconveniences, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed exploring all of the nearby scenic and historic areas.

Nice place to unwind at the end of the day by New Guest 05/24/2018
This is a great property in Bluff UT. Beautiful and practical. Great space. We had six adults working on a project in the area. The space was plenty of room for us. Kitchen worked great. We were able to make our meals easily. The front porch is a special treat. Shade from an awning and tree. Nice place to unwind at the end of the day
Great place! by Patricia 04/23/2018
Great place!
Brand New Listing by New Guest 01/06/2018
This Amazing Antique House is brand new to our family of cabins. This is a most unique home built by Jens Nielsen himself when the Hole in the Rock Pioneers arrived in and settled Bluff Utah. It is across from Bluff Fort, the original settlement in Bluff and has amazing tours and movies to watch. You will LOVE this place!
